Mar 15, 2004. /Lesprom Network/. UK newspaper publishers in cooperation with the government set the volumes of recycled raw materials in pulp production used for newspaper publishing in the UK. In line with the agreement, the amount of recycled fiber was not to exceed 60% in 2001, 65% - in 2003 and 70% by late 2006. In 2001 the limits were reviewed and remained unchanged. Another review of the limits set in 2000 is about to start taking into consideration additional mackle paper procession capacities, the growth of newsprint consumption, the quality of newsprint and recycled raw materials and etc. The latest audit check was carried out in January-December 2003 and was based on the data received from suppliers. The audit check included the information about total newsprint consumption by the UK publishing houses. Gross mackle paper volume used in newspaper production in the UK was 68,8% of the total newsprint consumption. Total mackle paper volume used by publishing houses in proportion to the total production volume was 109,7% (15-20% were lost in the ink removal process).
