Mar 09, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. UPM-Kymmene Oyj Wednesday said it has received acceptances from its Miramichi mill employees for a proposal that will cut employee costs at the Canadian mill by 12%. The statement was made by Chief Executive Jussi Pesonen at a telephone conference Wednesday. According to Canadian Press, the unionized employees at the Miramichi mill have agreed to a wage cut of 5.5%. The unionized employees will get a 2% increase in 2007 and return to current wages in 2008. The Miramichi mill, which is located in New Brunswick, produces lightweight coated paper and has an annual capacity of 450,000 tons. The mill was idled Feb. 1 for a three-month layoff in order to reduce costs.
