American paper enterprises increased newsprint stocks to 336 thousand tons in January 2004, newsprint stocks in late December were 303 thousand tons. Newsprint stocks increased in Canada.
Total newsprint production and demand in North America were relatively low in January 2004. Total production was 1,175 million tons (-0,8%), total demand - 968 thousand tons (-0,4%).
