In response to the newsprint prices rise on the US market on February,1 North American print media companies created additional newsprint paper stocks, up 6% above total newsprint stock, estimated at 938 thousand tons, Pulp and Paper Products Council reported. Newsprint stocks were estimated at 881 thousand tons by the end of December 2003. American paper enterprises increased newsprint stocks to 336 thousand tons in January 2004, newsprint stocks in late December were 303 thousand tons. Newsprint stocks increased in Canada. Total newsprint production and demand in North America were relatively low in January 2004. Total production was 1,175 million tons (-0,8%), total demand - 968 thousand tons (-0,4%).
