Aug 01, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Rex Varn, Vice President and General Manager, Flexible Packaging, Sonoco, has been elected a Corporate Officer, it was announced by Harris E. DeLoach, Jr., Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. Varn recently rejoined Sonoco after having served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Hilex Poly Co., LLC, since December 2003 when Sonoco sold its High Density Film business to Hilex. At the time of the sale, Varn was division Vice President and General Manager of Sonoco's High Density Film business. A graduate of Clemson University with a BS degree in industrial management, Varn joined Sonoco in 1980 and served in a variety of manufacturing and management positions with the company's tube and core operations, consumer products division and primarily in the High Density Film business. In 1997, he was named President, Sonoco Limited, a Canadian subsidiary, where he remained until returning to High Density Film as General Manager in 1999. Sonoco, founded in 1899, is a $3.2 billion global manufacturer of industrial and consumer products and provider of packaging services, with more than 300 operations in 35 countries, serving customers in 85 nations.
