Jan 27, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Weyerhaeuser has begun cutting staff in advance of the permanent shutdown of a paper machine and wood room at its mill in this northwestern Ontario community, Thunder Bay Chronicle-Journal reported. “Unfortunately, we had to release a number of staff yesterday,”' mill manager Norm Bush confirmed Thursday. The job cuts, which affect about a half-dozen management positions, are associated with the company's restructuring announcement last month. Citing poor market conditions, Weyerhaeuser said it was shutting down the No. 1 paper machine and wood room on April 1, resulting in the layoff of 110 employees. With the layoffs, manpower at the Dryden mill will be reduced to 685 workers.
