Wickes Q2 drops on lower sales

NEW YORK, Aug 14 (Reuters) - Lumber and building materials marketer Wickes Inc. (NasdaqNM:WIKS - news) said Tuesday its second-quarter profits slid on lower sales.
The Vernon Hills, Illinois-based company posted a net profit of $982,000, or 12 cents a share, compared with $1.5 million, or 18 cents a share, in the year-ago period.
Sales in the quarter, which ended June 30, fell to $274.1 million from $280.4 million last year. The company announced in July the resignation of president and chief operating officer David Krawczyk.
Shares in the company closed Monday at $4.05 on the Nasdaq. Wickes has a 52-week trading range of $3 to $6.44.
