Oct 27, 2011. /Lesprom Network/. SCA Timber will cut back production at its sawmills by 10% over the remainder of the year. The greater part of the production restrictions will take place in conjunction with the Christmas and New Year holidays, as the company said in a press release received by Lesprom Network.
“We are restricting production to avoid accumulating inventory,” says Jonas Mårtensson, President of SCA Timber. “Although demand has not fallen, production in primarily Finland and Sweden has increased more than the market can absorb. We have therefore chosen to reduce production to achieve a level of supply that is in line with demand.”
The methods used to reduce production at SCA’s sawmills in the four counties in Northern Sweden will differ slightly as will the point in time for these.
SCA Timber has a production capacity of 2.2 million cubic metres of solid wood products from spruce and pine, including the production of the jointly owned Gällö Timber. SCA Timber has 800 employees.
