VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--Slocan Forest Products Ltd. has successfully registered its forestry environmental management system to the internationally recognized certification standard ISO 14001, President & CEO Jim Shepherd announced today. ``This is a proud day for our Company. ISO 14001 registration gives our customers, investors and employees the confidence that we are meeting world-class standards in environmental management in all our forestry operations,'' Shepherd said. Registration followed an extensive independent audit of Slocan's forestry environmental management system by the Quality Management Institute, a division of the CSA Group. Slocan's environmental management system covers all forestry activities, including road construction, harvesting and silviculture. The ISO 14001 registration embraces all of Slocan's interior forestry operations supplying timber to its 10 sawmills, its oriented strand board plant and its plywood mill. ISO 14001 is designed to provide an internationally recognized framework for environmental management, measurement, evaluation and auditing. "It was implemented to further protect the environment and sustain the forest resource," Shepherd said. Slocan Forest Products Ltd. is a major integrated forest products company with an annual capacity of 1.5 billion board feet of lumber, 300 million square feet of plywood (3/8 inch basis), 510 million square feet of oriented strand board (3/8 inch basis), 800,000 bone dry units of wood chips, and 240,000 tonnes of chemi-thermo mechanical pulp.
