KYIV. March 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukraine boosted its industrial output 4.5% year-on-year in February and 3.5% from the beginning of the year, the state statistics committee told Interfax. The biggest increases in production in February were noted in oil refining (52.6%), timber and wood products (35.5%), food and agriculture product processing (12.4%) and engineering (11.4%). In the processing industry, where two thirds of Ukraine's industrial production is concentrated, output went up 4.8% year-on-year in January-February 2002. In the mining industry output dropped 0.6% in the first two months. Production dropped 10.0% for ferrous metals and 1.5% for non- ferrous metals. Production fell 3.0% in the chemicals and petrochemicals industry.
