According to the statement, the ministry will provide timber for the Ukrainian mills, because the production capacitites of the mills exceed timber production output, which may result in the massive logging. According to the ministry, Ukraine exports 3 million cub m of round timber/yr. Ukrainian timber supplies are estimated at 1.7 billion cub m, overall square occupied by forests is 10.8 million hectares. Previously, head of Rivnya district Vasily Chervony applied to Viktor Yushenko asking for ban on timber exports.
