Aug 16, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Steve Arnold has assumed the role of mill manager for Weyerhaeuser’s Elma Veneer facility. As mill manager, Arnold will be responsible for all aspects of the facility and its 79 employees. The mill produces veneer for Trus Joist, a Weyerhaeuser business that manufactures a variety of engineered lumber products for structural framing and industrial applications. It also produces chips and landscape timber. Arnold is a 24-year employee of Weyerhaeuser, most recently working as the green-end manager at the Raymond sawmill. Before that he spent 21 years at the Aberdeen sawmill holding a variety of positions such as finishing-end manager, maintenance and project manager. “Steve’s leadership in safety and his experience in improving manufacturing and maintenance systems will guide Elma Veneer in reaching our goals of safety excellence, customer satisfaction and sustainable shareholder return,” said Rick Gellerson, manager of Weyerhaeuser’s Western veneer and plywood operations. Arnold has a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington. He succeeds Allan Watters, who is now working for Weyerhaeuser Timberlands International in Uruguay. Weyerhaeuser Company, one of the world's largest integrated forest products companies, was incorporated in 1900. In 2004, sales were $22.7 billion. It has offices or operations in 19 countries, with customers worldwide. Weyerhaeuser is principally engaged in the growing and harvesting of timber; the manufacture, distribution and sale of forest products; and real estate construction, development and related activities.
