Jun 11, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. The environmental lobby group Greenpeace and Greens Senator Rachel Siewert say the Government should implement its election promise, ABC News reports. They have been supported by environmentalists in Papua New Guinea, where up to 80 per cent of forests are illegally logged. Greenpeace Australia's campaign director Steve Campbell says several big timber importers have also joined the call. "The Government is pursuing a solution where polluters can avoid domestic emissions cuts in Australia through purchasing forest credits, yet without such cuts the forests and the biodiversity they contain are in critical danger," he said.
