Canadian lumber production in June, the month in which shipments to the U.S. were free of export taxes, increased just 3% from May and fell short of March and April levels. However, at 1.9 billion board feet, June production was 23% above the June 2009 level, as Random Lengths reported. Year-to-date production through June reached 11.0 billion board feet, 20% ahead of the 2009 rate. Gaining 5% from May to June, British Columbia was at 5.7 billion board feet through June, up 21%. Quebec and New Brunswick declined from May to June, although at 391 million board feet, Quebec was 54% higher than in June 2009. Nova Scotia output totaled 35 million board feet in June, more than double the year-earlier level, and year-to-date output of 183 million board feet was up 71%.
