Jun 01, 2010. /Lesprom Network/. Canadian lumber production rose 15% from February to March, to 1.9 billion board feet, according to Statistics Canada. The 1Q total of 5.3 billion board feet was 15% ahead of the year-ago pace, as Random Lengths reported.
Production in Alberta, Nova Scotia, and the British Columbia Coast all gained 40% or more from February, although the B.C. Interior gained just 5%.
For the quarter, Alberta was less than 1% above the year-ago pace, and Ontario declined 27%, but every other province gained at least 17%. Compared to the same month in 2009, March output in the B.C. Central Interior more than doubled, and all of Canada rose 28%.
