China and Russia should step up cooperation in forest industry and pass on from trade with forest resources to its advanced processing, Chinese vice minister of commerce Yu Guangzhou said today at press-conference held in press-center of Year of China in Russia in He stated that Russia is Chinese largest lumber supplier while China is main exporter of Russia wood. Bilateral cooperation in the field of forest industry is characterized by large complementarity. He noted that to step up Chinese-Russian cooperation China encourages actively Chinese investments in construction in Russia of pulp-and-paper, wood-processing mills and furniture plants. According to him, the parties have repeatedly held symposiums and business conferences dedicated to problems of advanced processing of wood and have developed medium- and long-term programmes of development of bilateral cooperation in the area of forest industry. Guangzhou said that the Chinese part will continue active policy of encouragement of cooperation between Chinese enterprises and Russian part in advanced processing of wood and is ready to sponsor them, according to Xinhua.
