May 29, 2014. /Lesprom Network/. Delignit AG is to fit out 122 intercity express trains of Japanese rail manufacturer Hitachi with its innovative Delignit system floor solution. The new trains will be deployed on high-speed rail routes in Great Britain. The total order for Delignit AG spread out over the next few years is valued at a mid-million Euro figure. The first three pre-series trains will go into operation in 2015, as the company said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

The Delignit system floor solution based on beechwood meets the high technical requirements for public transportation in high speed trains and - aside from its exceptional strength - provides additional weight advantages in compliance with the requirements for fire protection and sound insulation.

The new Hitachi Rail Europe trains for the Intercity Express Programme will be deployed on the Great Western and East Coast Main Lines in Great Britain. The two routes connecting London with Bristol and London with Edinburgh rank as the most important ones in Great Britain. Over the next few years, the intention is to replace the almost 40 year-old intercity trains now in service. The new trains can be both electric and diesel-operated and will reach travelling speeds of 200 km/h.

The first three trains of a total of 122 (equalling 866 carriages) will be manufactured in Japan. Serial production will then take place in a new Hitachi plant in Great Britain.

The Delignit Group develops, manufactures and distributes predominately hardwood-based ecological materials and system solutions.
