Total European shipments of the grade were flat year-on-year - the net result of a 12.8% (19,000 tonnes) drop in exports (particularly to the Far East) and a 2.6% (20,000 tonnes) increase in domestic shipments, CEPIPRINT said in a press release received by Lesprom Network.
Total European demand of SC-magazine paper was down 4.8% (17,000 tonnes) last month. However, the drop in shipments to Europe was offset by the 58.1% (34,000 tonnes) rise in shipments overseas, largely to North America.
In coated mechanical reels, October saw positive development across the board against the same period last year. European demand rose 7.7% (3,000 tonnes). On top of that, exports of the coated mechanical grade were up 26.4% (32,000 tonnes), partly due to an increase in deliveries to Australia and Brazil.
On the uncoated mechnical side, European demand was flat last month year-on-year, but a rise in deliveries notably to Asia and North America helped to boost total exports to reach 38,000 tonnes - an increase of 15.6% over October 2009.
