May 16, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Finnish paper workers have reportedly gone on strike on Sunday (15 May), and pulp mills in almost 20 municipalities were closed down. The remaining paper and cardboard mills were reportedly shut down during Monday (16 May) morning. The strike would reportedly affect all of the 40 paper mills and 14 board mills in Finland, and includes some 24,000 members of the Finnish Paper Workers' Union. Also some 7,000 members of the Union of Salaried Employees (TU) working in the mills joined the strike, reported the Finnish news agency STT. The strike is reportedly due to end on Wednesday (18 May), when the employers' Finnish Forest Industries Federation is to begin a two-week lockout.
