Aug 25, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. The first applied pulp and paper molecular modelling symposium begins on Wednesday in Montreal. This symposium, which is an initiative of the research centres of Cascades and Norampac, will be held August 24, 25 and 26 and will welcome more than fifty scientists from all over the world.
Co-chaired by professor Theo van de Ven and professor M.A. (Tony) Whitehead from McGill University, this symposium will give participants an opportunity to increase their knowledge by partaking in conferences on topics as varied as wet-end chemistry on paper machines, paper surface treatments and pulp bleaching. Organizers of the event hope to stimulate and develop the use of molecular simulation in the pulp and paper industry.
Many universities from around the world will be represented during the symposium, namely, Universite du Quebec а Trois-Rivieres, Concordia University and McMaster University (Canada), the University of South Dakota and Berkeley University (United States), Tasmania University (Australia) and Jyvaskyla University (Finland).
Founded in 1964, Cascades manufactures transforms and markets packaging, tissue paper and fine paper products made primarily of recycled fibres. Cascades has approximately 15,600 men and women working in some 140 modern and versatile operating units in North America, Europe and Asia. Its management philosophy, over 40 years’ experience in recycling, and ongoing commitment to research and development are just some of the strengths that allow it to create innovative products for its clients and thus offer higher returns to its shareholders.
