Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud says the South American country considered banning exports altogether to dissuade logging without investment in wood manufacturing. He said that the hike will not affect 50 other types of wood to encourage harvesting of those species. Dense rainforest covers about 75% of Guyana. About 20% is leased to timber companies.
