Apr 17, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Hedstrom Lumber Co. of Grand Marias, Minnesota, will shut down production for two weeks beginning on April, 20 to reduce inventory, as Duluth News Tribune informed Lesprom Network.
The company will reopen May 4 with 10 fewer workers or two-thirds capacity, according to a news release. At the end of May, the reduced production will be reviewed and a decision made whether to return to full production, according to the company.
The company produces high-quality wood products, which have been particularly hard hit by the recession and slump in home construction. Company officials hope sales during the shutdown will bring inventory more in line with the market and keep the company viable.
