Mike Van Eyck, President and Chief Executive Officer of Appleton Coated LLC announced that he will retire September 1, 2005 after 28 years in the pulp and paper industry. John Cappy, currently Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, has been appointed to succeed Van Eyck as President and Chief Executive Officer of Appleton Coated LLC and will replace Van Eyck as a member of the Arjo Wiggins Management Committee. Van Eyck’s 28 years in the pulp and paper industry followed 5 years as a Research Chemist with the Dow Chemical Company. His career with Appleton Coated LLC and the former Appleton Papers Inc. encompassed a variety of assignments since his employment began in 1977 as a First Line Supervisor at the Portage Capsular Products Plant. Two assignments at the Combined Locks Mill as Superintendent of Finishing & Shipping and as Manager of Production and Inventory Control, were followed by his move to the Appleton Plant as Materials Manager. In 1984, Van Eyck was appointed President of Appleton Papers Canada Limited and Plant Manager of the Peterborough, Ontario Plant. He returned to Appleton in 1986 to various corporate positions including Director of Business Systems Development and Executive Director of Logistics. In 1992, he began a European assignment as CEO of Arjo Wiggins Appleton’s Carbonless Europe business headquartered near Brussels, Belgium. In 1993, he was appointed CEO of AWA’s Printing & Writing Business Unit headquartered in Paris, France. He returned to Appleton in 1996 to various Senior Executive positions including General Manager and Executive Vice President of the Coated Freesheet Business Unit. In 1999, he was appointed CEO of the Coated Freesheet Division and in 2000, CEO of the newly created Appleton Coated LLC. “I have been privileged to work with an outstanding group of people over these past 28 years, and to have had the honor to lead the establishment and development of Appleton Coated LLC”, stated Van Eyck. “As a member of the Executive team of Appleton Coated these past 6 years, John Cappy has had extensive experience in all aspects of the business and I am confident in his leadership capabilities in directing the future of Appleton Coated.” John Cappy began his career with Champion International as a Project Engineer after graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a BSME in 1980. He progressed through several manufacturing positions and was the Kromekote Gradeline Manager prior to joining Appleton Papers in 1991 as the Production Manager at Combined Locks. In 1995, he became the Mill Manager at Combined Locks and a member of the Executive Team of Appleton Papers. In 1998, Cappy became the Vice President of Manufacturing for the Coated Business with overall responsibilities for Manufacturing, R&D and Field Technical Services. He maintained those responsibilities for the newly created Appleton Coated LLC through 2002. In 2003, he was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer with overall operational responsibility for the business. Most recently, Cappy assumed direct responsibility for Commercial Sales and Specification. Regarding the future of Appleton Coated LLC, Cappy said, “I am excited about the future of our business.
