Apr 06, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. In 2004 Latvia declined logging 7.8% to 10.75 million cub m compared to 2003. The decrease of logging was also witnessed in private forestries – down 9.5% to 6.81 million cub m compared to 2003. The timber produced in private forestries accounts for 63.3% of the total amount of timber. In 2004 logging in state-owned forestries reduced 4.8% to 3.94 million cub m. In 2004 the average square of logging was 1.1-1.8 hectares per 1 state-owned forestry and 1 hectares per 1 private forestry. In 2003 the average square of logging was 1.3-1.09 hectares per 1 state-owned forestry and 1.2 hectares per 1 private forestry. Forests in Latvia occupy 2.923 million hectares or 45% of the country 1.458 million hectares are state-owned (49.9%) whil the remaining part – 1.465 million hectares (50.1%) are private-owned.
