Metso IQ Tissue Color is the first scanning on-line color sensor for tissue with accurate and stable full-spectrum measurements to achieve precise color control when using multiple dyes and optical brightening agents. The unique air purge design eliminates problems with dust and the sensor is immune to pass-line variation, sheet flutter, gap distance and temperature. With even very low opacity tissue, IQ Tissue Color has excellent correlation to offline laboratory tests, providing faster on-spec quality and reduced startup waste. Space for a scanning platform is always limited on tissue machines where open draws are minimized. Requiring only 211 mm in machine direction, the new Metso IQ Scanner minimizes the length of unsupported web, especially important with lighter grades. Equipped with a Metso IQ Fiber sensor, a non-nuclear fiber weight measurement developed especially for tissue, accurate moisture and fiber measurements are made one thousand times a second across the sheet. Tissue makers have been quick in replacing the traditional two sensor (basis weight and moisture) approach with close to 100 IQ Fiber sensors presently sold. For smaller machines, a fixed point narrow C-frame is also available, providing a very cost effective non-scanning solution with full QCS advantages. Metso’s dedicated profiler offering for tissue is highlighted with the Metso IQ Steam Profiler, which has seen tissue machine installations grow at a steady 30% year on year since the latest generation launch in 2008. The success of this profiler has been driven by the quest for better drying efficiency as energy prices continue to rise. Optionally, the steam profiler can now be equipped with a special shower pipe for cleaning purposes.
