Nov 04, 2011. /Lesprom Network/. Minas Basin Pulp and Paper in Hantsport, Nova Scotia, Canada, reduces workforce by 8%. The mill employs about 180 people. The 8% will be cut through layoffs and some by attrition, as ForestTalk reported. “Yesterday we made the tough decision to reduce our workforce in the order of 8%. It’s not a large number, but those dedicated employees that we let go and said goodbye to, it was a tough day,” said Scott Travers, president of Minas Basin. “The decision is a result of the question of sustainability within the paper industry.” Travers said the mill is not pursuing a special power rate, like Nova Scotia’s other mills, Bowater Mersey and NewPage Port Hawkesbury.
