Jul 21, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Last week AbitibiBowater announced their new executive team, ForestTalk reminds. The new executive team is composed of 6 people, down from 9. AbitibiBowater spokesman Seth Kursman said the reduction in the executive team "is an important first step in the process of reducing our overall costs and all things are being looked at as part of that, inclusive of head count." 2 of the 3 executives that are no longer part of the executive team will be offering transitional support in the short-term before leaving the company. The 3rd person will head the international sales team but no longer be a senior executive. Meanwhile, more cuts are expected at AbitibiBowater's headquarters in Montreal. AbitibiBowater will not comment on the number of possible job cuts, but did mention cutting their expenses. The company plans to dramatically reduce memberships in associations, consolidate office space, cut the number of consultants, and obtain savings from suppliers.
