Paper price recovers in Brazil

In the first quarter of 2005 the commercialization of the product showed a downturn and prices in the domestic markets sunk by 8%. In the period, Votorantim Celulose e Papel (VCP) and Suzano Papel e Celulose have made the payment of the first installment for the acquisition of Ripasa, which acquisition has been struggled with the US International Paper.
The four players are the main producers of cut size paper in Brazil. In VCP, the average price was 8% down when compared to the Q4 2004. Ripasa also showed a fall of 6%. Suzano reported a rise of 0.6% in the period.
