Trees from hundreds of privately run forests may never be harvested because of the costs involved, it has been revealed. A Timber Industry Development Group report said the average size of private forests, at nine hectares, would be too small to be efficient. Group chairman Liam McElligott said: "The sector is beset with high costs, low prices and an industry structure that perpetuates inefficiencies and duplication."
