. Russian industrial production increased 7,5% in January 2004 compared with the prior period in 2003. However the rates declined 6,4% compared with December 2003, Russian state statistics committee reported.

12 industry sectors witnessed production growth: glass, porcelain and faience industry - up 23,2%, machinery building and metal procession - up 22,5%, building materials - up 13,3%, timber sector - up 11,6%, chemical and petrochemical industry - up 10m3%, medical industry -up 10%, fuel industry and ferrous metallurgy - up 8,2%, food industry - up 7,1%, polygraphy - up 4,9%, microbiological industry - up 1,3%, flour-grinding, cereals industry and mixed fodder - up 0,6%.
