Dec 09, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. With installation of new equipment, Segezha Packaging which belongs to Investlesprom holding is planning to increase threefold pulp capacities by 2013. ‘Environmental pressure on the region will decrease with that, partly because of switching to biomass energy generation’, Investlesprom’s executive Sergei Pokusaev announced at the workshop called ‘Environmentally friendly paper packaging: global experience and Russian state of affairs’.
In 2009 Segezha Packaging issued first Russian FSC-certified paper bags which are sold to IKEA.
As WWF Russia’s press service reported, Tetra Pak Russia Vice President Aleksandr Nikolaev also announced the company’s intention to broaden its FSC-certified products variety. In 2008, Tetra Pak delivered 200 million certified packaging units on the world market.
Gary Pikavanz, Director for new outlets and social responsibility of Castorama, international network of construction materials stores, said that constant environmentalization has always been within company’s policy. Mr. Pikavanz showed interest to new FSC-certified paper bags of Segezha Packaging.
The workshop on eco-packaging was held with the support of WWF. It was attended by representatives of WWF and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), authorities, large producers and consumers of paper products (Investlesprom, McDonald`s, BASF etc.) as well as invited journalists.
