Oct 22, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Setra plans to start-up Färila sawmill in Ljusdal during the 1Q 2010. The market concept will be a specialised whitewood sawmill with a special focus on visible value-added wood products such as glulam, panels and flooring, the company said in a press release received by Lesprom Network. “Conditions in the wood products market have changed in a positive direction and today our assessments about the future are cautiously optimistic,” says Börje Bengtsson, President and CEO of Setra. “Provided there is no drastic change in market development and the raw material situation, we have received a clear mandate from the Board to restart Färila during the 1Q 2010.” The decision to close Färila was made in February 2009 against the background of the tough market situation and a negative earnings trend. When Färila is restarted during the 1Q 2010 it will be with a new and clear special focus. The market concept will be based on fine-textured and fine-grained “Helsinge spruce” and production will focus on visible wood products such a glulam, panels and flooring. A large part of production from Färila will be used in Setra’s own processing units, primarily Långshyttan, Valbo and Skutskär. The annual production volume at the specialised Färila sawmill is expected to amount to approximately 100,000 cubic metres of sawn product. This can be compared with the previous production level, when both spruce and pine were sawed at the unit, of approximately 195,000 cubic metres. It is estimated that some 30 people will be offered employment at Färila sawmill when it starts up again. Färila is part of Setra’s Whitewood business area.
