May 24, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Smurfit Kappa Sturovo, a.s, reports sales of its products and services of SKK 2.2 billion for the year 2005, SITA reported. Smurfit Kappa Sturovo closed the year 2005 with a loss of SKK 882.1 million. Capital expenditures were at SKK 127 million, of which the better portion were used to optimize fluting production. Company spokesman Robert Kiss said the company manufactured more than 177 800 tonnes of fluting last year, i.e. paper to produce the corrugated layer in cardboard. This means a 27 000 tonne annual increase. He ascribed the company’s incorporation into the Smurfit Kappa Group as the most important event last year. “During 2006 we will focus on reducing energy intensity. We are preparing a reconstruction of the K1 boiler as the main energy source. This should result in reduced costs for natural gas consumption,” said Mr. Kiss. Parent company Smurfit Kappa Group controls 98.5% of the company Smurfit Kappa Sturovo, a.s. while the rest is in the hands of minority shareholders.
