(PRAVDA, April 1, pg 1) Slovak police are examining state forestry company Lesy SR over woods exports carried out under unfavourable terms to the state, according to daily Pravda. The sales took place under the previous government when the Agriculture Ministry was led by Pavol Koncos. Both the police and Prosecutor-General's Office confirmed that an investigation was underway, but neither would offer any further details. Agriculture Minister Zsolt Simon met investigators on Monday and promised to issue a statement on the matter on Tuesday. Last month, the minister criticised the company for previously exporting wood while local wood processors lacked raw material. This view, based on the results of an inquiry he ordered after taking office last year, is rejected by the Lesy management, trade unions, and the Slovak Chamber of Forests.
