Stora Enso (STERV.HE) won permission from the European Commission on Friday to acquire Dutch paper merchant Scaldia and International Paper (IP.N) subsidiary Papeteries de France. Finnish-based Stora Enso, the world's biggest paper and board maker, said when the deal was announced it would buy French paper merchant Papeteries de France for Euro 18 million . It said the cost of Scaldia was Euro 30 million . "The Commission concluded that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the EEA (European Economic Area) or any substantial part of it and has therefore approved the concentration," the European Union executive said in a statement.
