Timber’s share has increased from 2% of multi-storey buildings in 2001, while wood’s use in sports halls and other types of halls has grown from 2% to 35-40% in the same time. 20% of bridges are made from timber, as TTJ reported. The biggest growth is in rooftop building, where new storeys are added to existing residential buildings, with a market share of 50%. Niclas Svensson, director of the Swedish Wood Building Council, said the involvement of both municipal decision makers and the construction industry had been crucial in increasing timber’s market share.
