May 02, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. The two countries reached agreement on issue of Canadian sawnwood export to the USA. In 2002, the USA introduced protectionist duties for Canadian sawnwood export because they supposed that Canadian timber producers had gotten indirect governmental support in the form of low forest tax. Now additional income amount received by the USA from higher duties has reached already $4 billion. According to the new agreement, the USA is ready to pay compensation to Canadian timber companies in exchange for restriction of their presence in some timber market segments to 34% or less.
