Jun 23, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. The timber industry is under threat by wet weather as loggers struggle to get into bushland to harvest trees for Clarence Valley sawmills, Australia, Coffs Coast Advocate reports. It was reported recently that many smaller sawmills were on borrowed time as stockpiles of logs dwindled due to months of wet weather. They were hoping for a long warm spell to dry out the bush so loggers could get in there and harvest. But those hopes were dashed last week with the heavy rain. Big River Timber managing director Jim Bindon said the mill would run out of pine in the next few days if the rain continued. Fortunately, there were still stocks of hardwood to mill.
