Russian timber production increased 4% (6 million cub m) in 2004 compared to 2003, which provided veneer, pulp, hardboard and particleboard production, Federal Timber Sector Agency advisor Roman Shipov announced. According to Roman Shipov, timber sector revenues increased 53.65% from RUR 4.1 billion to RUR 6.3 billion. In 2005 timber sector revenue is expected to reach RUR 7.5 billion. Reforestation was provided on 715 thousand hectares, trees were planted on 200 thousand hectares. ‘The following amounts allow to provide timely reforestation and reduce the amount of deforestated forest lands’ he added. Due to the work already done and natural reforestation, 1 million more heclatres will be regarded as economically valuable.
