U.S. softwood lumber wholesale prices edge lower in May

U.S. softwood lumber wholesale prices edged down 0.1% from April but remained 5.1% above year-earlier levels, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported.
The small monthly decline left prices broadly stable after recent gains, while the annual increase kept softwood lumber above last year's level.
In unadjusted supporting categories, hardwood lumber producer prices fell 0.1% month over month and were up 3.3% year over year, while plywood producer prices rose 1.4% month over month and were up 5.5% year over year.
Final-demand producer prices rose 1.1% month over month. The benchmark was up 6.4% year over year, leaving softwood lumber's 5.1% annual gain 1.3 percentage points lower.
