Jan 26, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Wausau Paper announced on Wednesday, January 25 that it has earned two distinguished certifications, Green Seal(R) and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), for specific portions of its line of printing and writing papers. Products earning certification meet strict environmental standards for printing and writing papers including recycled paper content. Green Seal(R) certification applies to approximately two-thirds of Wausau Paper's more than 1 600 commercial stock items, providing the company with the widest range of Green Seal(R) certified printing and writing papers on the market today. Certified products meet stringent manufacturing standards including the use of 30% recycled post-consumer fiber in papermaking and strict limits on heavy metals within packaging materials. Wausau Paper earned both Green Seal(R) certification and FSC Chain of Custody certification for its Exact Eco 100(TM) product line. This environmentally-responsible imaging paper product line is made exclusively with 100 percent recycled post-consumer fiber, is acid-free and lignin-free and is guaranteed for inkjet, laser, copier and offset printing applications. FSC certification recognizes products that support the responsible management of the world's forests and forest resources. "The introduction of Green Seal(R) and FSC certified printing and writing papers indicates our commitment to environmental stewardship and builds on the success achieved as a market-leading producer of environmentally preferable towel and tissue products," said Thomas J. Howatt, president and CEO. "Achieving certification allows us to meet the growing demand for environmentally preferable printing and writing papers and is consistent with our strategy of offering differentiated value-added products." Wausau Paper produces fine printing and writing papers, technical specialty papers, and "away-from-home" towel and tissue products. Green Seal(R) is a registered trademark of Green Seal, Inc., in Washington D.C., and is used by permission. FSC is an international organization that promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests.
