Dec 10, 2004. /Lesprom Network/. Weyerhaeuser Company announced that Michael A. Jackson, 56, has been named senior vice president, Pulp and White Paper effective Dec. 27. He succeeds Michael R. Onustock, 65, who will retire Dec. 31. In his new role, Jackson will report directly to Richard E. Hanson, executive vice president and chief operating officer. Jackson will be responsible for the cellulose fibers, fine paper, newsprint, and liquid packaging board businesses. In addition, Jackson will be a member of the company’s operating committee which is charged with executing the business and portfolio strategies agreed upon by the board, chief executive officer and senior management team. “Mike is one of our most experienced and innovative leaders,” said Steven R. Rogel, chairman, president and chief executive officer. “Throughout his career, Mike has brought a great deal of energy and innovation to every leadership position he has held. These traits, combined with his extensive knowledge of our paper businesses, make him an ideal leader for this sector. I look forward to the continued contributions Mike will make to our paper business and company.” Since joining Weyerhaeuser in 1977, Jackson has held numerous management positions in the paper and containerboard businesses. These include serving as vice president of fine paper (2002-2004), business papers (2000-2002) and recycling (1998-2000). In addition, Jackson has served as vice president, quality/human resources for containerboard packaging from 1993 to 1998. Jackson is a 1970 graduate of St. Michael’s College where he earned a degree in business administration. Throughout his career, he has held several industry positions including serving on the American Forest & Paper Association printing and writing executive committee and vice chair of the AF&PA paper/recycling group. Onustock was elected to the position of senior vice president, Pulp and White Paper in Feb. 2002. Prior to joining Weyerhaeuser, Onustock was with Willamette for 29 years. A graduate of the University of Washington, Onustock retires with more than 40 years of industry experience. “I would thank Mick for his role in the successful integration of Willamette and his help in growing our paper business,” Rogel said. “I have known Mick for many years and I will miss his counsel, knowledge and friendship. I wish him the very best in his retirement.”
