Apr 08, 2011. /Lesprom Network/. AbitibiBowater has recorded net profits of $4.24 billion in the 4Q 2010. The company's full-year net profit of $2.61 billion was up from a net loss of $1.53 billion in 2009. Sales rose 8.7% to $4.75 billion, as The Canadian Press reported. The company said in a report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission earlier this week that it attributed the increases to accounting gains stemming from its legal restructuring. The net profit of $4.24 billion during the three months ended Dec. 31 compares with a net loss of $314 million recorded during the same quarter in 2009. The results for the 4Q 2010 include an accounting gain of $3.55 billion related to the restructuring completed last fall, a tax gain of $1.61 billion, and expenditures of $362 million due to a "fresh start" in accounting, says the company.
