Feb 18, 2013. /Lesprom Network/. International technology Group Andritz has successfully completed the start-up of PM2’s dryer section at Smurfit Kappa’s Hoya mill, Germany, as the company said in a press release received by Lesprom Network.
As a result, Smurfit Kappa can achieve its goals to increase capacity, improve product quality, and reduce energy consumption.
The rebuild of the test liner and fluting machine comprised the following Andritz perfomance:
- Complete dismantling of the dryer section and rebuild with new frame and new rolls, supply of a PrimeRun web stabilization system, ropeless tail-threading (PrimeFeeder), a film press (PrimeCoat Film), and a new energy-recovery hood. In spite of the average paper weight being reduced, the capacity could thus be increased by 17%, formation improved, and energy consumption significantly reduced.
- In a second rebuild phase, the machine’s output was increased again by 17%. In order to achieve this goal, Andritz Pulp & Paper moved the complete reel and enlarged the after-drying section by adding a PrimeDry ST and a PrimeDry DT dryer section, as well as a PrimeRun web stabilization system. The new components have a design speed of 1,200 m/min, at a width at reel of 7,600 mm.
