MINSK. Jan 21 (Interfax-West) - Belarus posted GDP of 16.91 trillion Belarussian rubles in 2001, up 4.1% from the previous year in constant prices, the statistics and analysis ministry told Interfax. As the government reported earlier GDP growth of 4%-5% was needed to implement the state budget. Industry accounted for 27.7% of GDP, agriculture for 8.9%, construction for 5.3%, transport and telecommunications for 11.3%, and trade and restaurant services for 9.7%. Industrial output totaled 14.65 trillion Bel. rubles, up 5.4% year- on-year. The biggest increase in output was seen in the food industry at 11.3%, engineering and metal processing at 11.2%, ferrous metals at 6.5%, chemicals and petrochemicals at 5.4%, timber, wood processing and pulp and paper at 5.3%, the fuel industry at 4.6%, and construction at 3.2%. Output fell 1.3% in the energy industry and 0.04% in the light industries. The official exchange rate on January 18 stood at 1,620 Bel. rubles/$1.
