Brazilian paper consumption grew by 2.3% year-on-year to 7.5 million tonnes in 2005, according to data by Brazilian Pulp and Paper Association (Bracelpa) released on January 10, 2006. Thus, the average annual paper consumption per capita stood at 40.4 kg in 2005, up from the 40 kg per capita in 2004.
According to Bracelpa, the country's pulp production rose 4.0% year-on-year in 2005.
Brazilian pulp and paper exports totalled $3.5 billion, an 18.6% year-on-year increase. Thus, the sector registered a trade surplus of $2.6 billion for 2005, Bracelpa said.
