SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 24, 2001 (paperloop.com) - Canfor Corp. has told customers it will increase its worldwide market pulp prices in October, a company source told paperloop. The Vancouver firm, which is the world's fifth-largest pulp producer, will increase its northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) list prices in the U.S. by $20/tonne to $500/tonne. An executive at Canfor said he expected typical North American contract discounts of 5 to 8 percent to prevail at the higher price. The prices are effective Oct. 1, said the source. Offshore markets are also slated for increases at Canfor. Europe list prices for October will be $480/tonne, up $30/tonne. Japan is going to be $450/tonne, also an increase of $30/tonne. Trading levels are case by case elsewhere in Asia, said the source.
