Mar 26, 2010. /Lesprom Network/. Chilean forestry and paper company CMPC could resume operations at its Pacifico wood pulp plant after being down since the February 27 earthquake, a top company executive said, as Reuters agency informed Lesprom Network. The 8.8-magnitude quake killed hundreds and ravaged cities, roads and industries like fishery and forestry in the pine-dotted central-south Chile. Chile is one of the world's biggest producers of wood pulp, which is used to make paper, and damage to the industry is seen pushing paper prices higher, experts say. The Pacifico plant has the capacity to produce 500,000 tonnes per year of softwood kraft pulp or about 60% of the company's soft pulp output capacity.
