In October 2008, the Danish Forest Owners' Development Association, SEUS, was founded with the long term purpose to offer Danish forest owners the opportunity to become members of Södra, which is one of the regional forest owner associations in Sweden. SEUS is represented in Södra's administrative board on the same basis as 31 forestry regions in Southern Sweden. SEUS' board of directors consists of four persons and the Chairman is Mr. Jens Risom, informed Lesprom Network according to the Nordic Forest Ownersʹ Associations.
Danish forest owners will have the same opportunities as Södra's Swedish members to sell wood to Södra and thus to become co-owners of Södra's wood processing industries. This is the first time that Södra invites non-Swedish forest owners to become co-owners and to supply wood on the same conditions as Swedish members.
In practice this means that Södra will primarily offer to buy wood from thinnings of Danish coniferous forests. This is a great step forward for Danish forest owners since they are now provided with a secure and attractive market for this product. It is also very important that they can become co-owners of a wood processing industry of great importance for the use of Danish wood.
SEUS and Södra are now working on the practical side of their co-operation. The market for wood during the last months demonstrates how important it is to create long term and effective supply chains for forest products so that also Danish forest owners can be offered attractive sales venues.
In the first half of 2009 SEUS will provide Danish forest owners with an opportunity to become members and will make concrete proposals to them.
