Jun 10, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Canadian forestry firm Domtar Corp said it would be calling back about 300 employees, as it plans to reopen its Woodland pulp mill, Reuters reported.
The Baileyville, Maine-based mill, which was closed on March 5, is expected to resume operations from the week of June 22, the company said.
The mill has an annual hardwood pulp production capacity of 398,000 air dry metric tonnes, Domtar said.
The timely benefits from the refundable tax credits for the production, use of alternative bio-fuel mixtures, stronger demand, improving prices and favorable currency exchange rates have made the reopening possible, the company said.
Domtar, which mainly sells office paper, currently employs nearly 11,000 people.
