Nov 21, 2011. /Lesprom Network/. FSC International announced the election of new members to its Board of Directors, including a new Chairperson. Pedro González Chaverri joins FSC from FUNDECOR in Costa Rica and will be representing the Environmental South. A graduate of the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica and the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica, Sr. Chaverri brings over twenty-three years of experience in sustainable forest management and community organisation. FUNDECOR is a leading Costa Rican NGO committed to forest preservation and sustainable forest management. Representing the Social North, Larry Joseph joins the FSC board from Canada. Larry has decades of experience in both indigenous community representation and the pulp and paper industry and played a leading role in representing Canada’s First Nations within Canada’s delegation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Larry has extensive FSC experience and is a trained FSC assessor. Dr. Michael E. Conroy has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board. He brings nearly half a century’s worth of experience to FSC, and his long and distinguished career in both academia and philanthropy will prove an invaluable source of guidance for FSC. A former lecturer at Yale and policymaker at the Rockefeller Foundation, Dr. Conroy has written extensively about the ‘certification revolution’ and he has helped lead the movement to systematize corporate responsibility in a wide range of industries. Chris van der Goot and Eric Palola, from Social North and Environmental North chambers respectively, both finish six year terms serving on the FSC Board of Directors. FSC is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests.
